Yesterday, world class performer, Michael Jackson (AKA the King of Pop) was pronounced dead. I almost couldn’t believe the news, and actually found myself hating TMZ reporting on what I thought to be a terrible terrible hoax…much to my (and everyone else’s) dismay, it wasn’t a hoax. Michael Joseph Jackson has left an amazing legacy behind through, most notably, his music, but also through his various humanitarian efforts which also deserve mentioning. As I said, he was an amazing artist/performer. I don’t think there is one artist out currently who can’t/won’t site him as an influence or at least as an inspiration. His music and even his concepts for videos were larger than life and broke through barriers of multiple genres…there were hip-hop/country/and other pop artists alike who all attempted to mimic his style and emulate him. I can honestly say that his music is timeless. My parents, my grandparents, my younger cousins, and myself can all listen to his music…which is another thing that can’t be said for many (if any other ) artists who are out currently. By today’s standards, 50 years is not old by any means…so it is safe to say this happened way before his time. I hate to sound cliche, but you know they say “the good die young.” Michael, you will be missed.
Rest in Paradise
